But it's interesting you say battery life is better on the VM then Bootcamp. I'm not sure how you are setting up your VM, but there is an issue with using a bootcamp partition as a VM. Apparently, the license for Windows is for one system, and a VM must have a separate key. At least that is a problem I have run into with my Win7 install.
